Florida Pen Pals Sending WARMTH!

We got a special surprise in the mail today.  Our Florida pen pals made each child a fleece scarf!
HOW THOUGHTFUL!  The scarves also came with a note for each child from his/her pen pal.
We immediately wrote them back, and are thinking of something to make and mail to them in January!

Data Collection, Line Plots, and teamwork OH MY!

The kids broke up into smaller groups and made a plan of: who they were going to collect data from (what class), what they were going to ask, and how they were going to sort and organize their data.  After organizing their "findings" into a line plot graph,  they presented their information to the rest o the class.  The following are pictures of the line plot graphs that the kids made.
Make sure to ask your child what group they worked in.

Informational Texts Publishing Party

On Friday we had a chance to celebrate our
Informational Book publishing  with the KW Kindergarten class.
I am not sure who enjoyed it more...the 2nd graders or the Kindergarteners?

December Book Order

I never received a catalog of books from Scholastic for December.... HOWEVER, we are still able to place an order.  All you need to do is go to https://clubs2.scholastic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/LogonForm

and click on the PARENT area.  Then enter the code NDHJ3.  You will be able to search for specific tittles or search through catalogs on line.  I will get an email when you have placed an order....that way I will know to submit the final order to the company.

Let me know if you have any questions!

WOW!  What a busy afternoon we had on Friday!  The kids  had the opportunity to rotate through all five 2nd Grade classrooms and participate in various Pilgrim activities ranging from playing games and cooking, to completing chores and making clothes!  A very special THANK YOU to all the parents that helped donate materials or/and came and helped in the classroom!

New Subtraction Game

This week I taught the kids a new game.  It is called Subtraction Tracks and is very easy to play!  All you need is a set of dice, and some paper and a pencil.  Ask your child to show you how to play!!!  What a great subtraction review!

Happy Halloween!

A huge thank you to Kareem and Michael for a WONDERFUL party, and to ALL the parents and family members that were able to attend, or helped out by sending in supplies!!!
I heard MANY times that it was the "best day ever!"

Here Kareem Collins is explaining some of the Halloween party activities.

Pumpkin Fair

On Friday during math, the kids got the opportunity to move through different pumpkin "stations" that focused on different science and math skills.  Some of the activities included sink/float with fruits and veggies, estimating how much their pumpkin weighed, then weighing it on a scale, finding the circumference of a HUGE pumpkin, and many more.  What a fun morning!  THANK YOU to Amelia Morrison for coming in and helping the kids put holes in their pumpkins at the pumpkin face station.
