Sending some cheer!

We made some gingerbread boys and girls to send to our Florida pen pals last week.  Each one had their own charm and personality... just like the kids in 2L!  We also wrote them letters, sharing our opinions about the books we enjoy reading.  (This is what we have been working on in Writing too!)
As always, we  can't wait to hear back from them!  We are hoping to FACETIME with them soon!

Mystery Reader #5

THANK YOU Mrs. Manlin for coming in and reading to our class last Friday!  The kids loved hearing about some of your family's Hanukkah traditions too!

Mystery Reader #4

We were so excited to have Mrs. Gibli stop by on Friday and read a Dr. Seuss classic to the kids!  One of her clues was she could count to 10 in 4 languages, and the kids were VERY excited to hear her do this in person!  If you would like to be a Mystery Reader, just send me 4 clues about yourself, and some times that work best for you....we can make it work!  Thanks again Mrs. Gibli!

Mystery Reader #3

We were so lucky to have Nylah's Nana come visit us from IOWA today.  She read us a story about Thanksgiving and spoke to the kids and answered their questions about growing up on a farm!  THANK YOU for coming in to visit and read!

Mystery Reader #2

The other week we were very happy to have Mr. Lourie come in as our 2nd mystery reader.  He read the kids The Lorax, and did a great job at using different voices!  THANKS for coming in!

Information Publishing Party

We have a class FULL of experts!  From experts on Butterflies to Rocks, the kids
enjoyed teaching us all about a topic they knew a lot about!   We viewed the books using the doc camera, and our "experts" used the microphone to read us what they wrote.   Later in the day we went down to Ms. E's Kindergarten class to teach them a little about our topics!

Happy Halloween!

Fun was had by ALL at our Halloween party!  The kids had a nice snack, did a craft and played some games.  The fun finished up with some dancing!  THANK YOU again to all of the parents that helped plan the party, and to the parent volunteers for helping out, as well as the parents and families
that came to watch the parade!

Yummy pretzels!

Dance party fun!

PUMPKIN FAIR = FUN!

The kids had a great time Friday doing many hands-on Math and Science activities having to do with PUMPKINS!!  They estimated, worked on circumference, weight, height and sink and float.
 Fun was had by ALL!
Trying to estimate how many pumpkin seeds are in the jar.

How many pumpkins tall are YOU?

What will sink?  What will float?  WHY?

How wide of a "belt" would Big Jack need?

Integrating SCIENCE and TECHNOLOGY!

Our class got the chance to use  their  new-found knowledge about the Human Body and create a book using the ipads.  The first step was to plan out and draft their book on a Storyboard.  Next they looked on the internet, through books in our classroom as well as student made projects to find pictures that "fit" what their topic was about.  Finally, they got to put it all together using an app called Educreations.  As soon as the books are ready to share, I will share them with you.  The kids are SO proud of their work, and they are doing a great job on this project!  For more information about the app  visit the website!   https://www.educreations.com/
