Integrating SCIENCE and TECHNOLOGY!

Our class got the chance to use  their  new-found knowledge about the Human Body and create a book using the ipads.  The first step was to plan out and draft their book on a Storyboard.  Next they looked on the internet, through books in our classroom as well as student made projects to find pictures that "fit" what their topic was about.  Finally, they got to put it all together using an app called Educreations.  As soon as the books are ready to share, I will share them with you.  The kids are SO proud of their work, and they are doing a great job on this project!  For more information about the app  visit the website!   https://www.educreations.com/

Our 1st Mystery Reader

We were so happy to have Nylah's Mom come in and be our very 1st Mystery Reader last week! She had the kids totally stumped with her four clues:  "I have visited 3 countries in Europe and 3 islands, I am the oldest child in my family, I love to run and sing, I went to graduate school at Washington University."  THANK YOU Sara for taking the time out of your day to come in and read to the class!  If you would like to be a Mystery Reader, just let me know a good date and time that works best.  We can work around your schedule!!!

Human Body - INTESTINES!

Another fun experiment we did had to do with food traveling from the stomach through the intestines!  Have your child explain all the steps.  Everyone had a BLAST with this one!!!

HUMAN BODY- STOMACH

We have been learning about the Digestion System this week, and have read about how the stomach is often compared to a blender.  We tried this out today, putting a "typical" lunch into a blender, and watching what happened when the stomach muscles crushed all the food up.... the kids LOVED this!

BEFORE:  sandwich, pretzels, apple and water

AFTER:  all turned into liquid.... ready for the Small Intestine!

Outdoor Learning Classroom - NESTS

This week we took the learning outside and continued learning about birds.  Today's lesson was focused on NESTS.  The kids learned all about WHY nests are important, WHERE nests can be found (and built) as well as WHAT nests can be made of.  During the last part of the lesson the kids got to make their OWN nests!

Small Moments Publishing Party

How wonderful it is to celebrate hard work!  We spent some time Thursday morning celebrating the writing that we have been working on for the past few weeks.  Our party began by having everyone read his /her published piece.  We then had a few refreshments, and the kids set their books on their desks.  The class then had the opportunity to walk around the room and re-read the
various books that they found extra interesting!
The PUBLISHED pieces!

Reading to their peers!
